Bill Clinton did not wrap the 1992 nomination up in June. May? Nope. April? Try again? Here's an article from the NY Times, dated MARCH 20, 1992. MARCH 20, 1992.
"Former Senator Paul E. Tsongas of Massachusetts withdrew from the race for the Democratic Presidential nomination today, a decision that many in his party said all but insured the selection of Gov. Bill Clinton of Arkansas.
Mr. Tsongas announced his departure at a news conference in Boston, where he said his campaign did not have enough money to continue. His move leaves only former Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. of California to compete with Mr. Clinton in the remaining primaries and caucuses in 21 states."
Well, she's been awfully benign lately, even going after Bush and McBush after their Israel foolishness. And now she's dropping strong hints.
First, it was taking the fight to the convention. Then it was June 3. Then it was May 31, when the rules committee meets. Now this, quoted on CNN last night.
"Those are two very good indicators of how close this race is and how intense it is and why everybody should vote and why I was so determined that we weren't going to quit before we got to Oregon," Clinton argued.
Sounds like Tuesday night could be an interesting one.
Way back last November, when it was agreed by all that the Michigan and Florida primaries would not count and most removed their names from the Michigan ballot, Hillary Clinton made the following statement, "I personally did not think it made any difference whether or not my name is on the ballot. It's clear, this election they're having is not going to count for anything."
Here's what baffles me. Every time the shrill cry of "Count Michigan, Count Florida" goes up from supporters of Ms. Clinton's failed campaign, when confronted with Ms. Clinton's statement above, the reply is invariable a deafening silence.
Can someone please explain?
What's the big story today? Hillary's expected big win in WV or who garners the most delegates?
So far today it's Obama +5, Hillary -1. Will Hillary make this and whatever other gains Obama makes today up in WV? What will the MSM push as the big story: Hillary's big win or Obama's increasing margin?
The above quote was not spoken by Barack Obama, David Axelrod, John Kerry, or anyone remotely connected with the Obama campaign. It came from the mouth of Clinton supporter Charles Rangel of Brooklyn.
With just a few words in her desperation to save her failed campaign, Senator Clinton managed to make the statement that a) blacks are lazy and b) white working people are racist.
This woman who has spent a lifetime distinguishing herself with good work has managed, in just a few weeks time, to disgrace herself and her legacy. She has in the past two days been hammered by three of the most prominent, Democratic leaning, African-American columnists in the country, Bob Herbert of the New York Times, Derrick Jackson of the Boston Globe, and Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post.
Six more endorsements for Senator Obama so far today, with rumors of more before the sun goes down.
With the endorsements of Michael Cryor and Lauren Glover of Maryland, Kalyn Free of Oklahoma, and Barbara Currie, Todd Stroger, and Richard Daley of Illinois, Hillary's SD lead is down to 14.
And Marc Armbinder suggests that there are more to come later today, including one from a congressperson in either NC or IN.
The New York Times, which, as you recall, endorsed Hillary Clinton at the time of the NY primary, now suggests that it's time for her to accept the obvious.
She did not get the huge win she needed tonight. She doesn't have the delegates. She doesn't have the popular votes. She's broke.
Michael Moore has been awfully quiet this election season, but no more. He doesn't seem to be bothered much by the fact that votes in his home state of Michigan aren't counting; though he doesn't get specific, my sense is that it has something to do with the rules.
Well, like me, Michael is particularly nauseated by the campaign that has been run by the Clintons. Well, read Michael for yourself.
